Evalena Sparks Hanshaw, age 80, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 24, 2020, in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky., from complications with FSH Muscular Dystrophy, Diabetes and COVID-19.

She was born April 29, 1940, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, a son of the late Eddie S. and Martha Haywood Sparks.
She married Rev. William Clayton Hanshaw, Sr. on June 17, 1961 and had three sons together.

Evalena obtained her GED in 1977 and graduated from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College and Georgetown College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Education with a Minor in Theology.
She was a professional Nursing Assistant and Personal Care Attendant from 1981-1992.
Her and her husband owned and ran the Pleasant Acres Miniature Horse Farm in Lawton, Kentucky from 1992-2010.

Her family lived next door to Tom T. Hall’s family. She was an avid author, musician, singer, and artist. She wrote the Country Ballad Song, “Cabin On The Hill” made famous by Flatt and Scruggs. She painted in the style of Bob Ross and sold many of her paintings over the years. She played the Piano very well in churches where her husband pastored.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Rev. William C. Hanshaw, Jr., five brothers, Larry Sparks, Eddie (Teeter) Sparks, Jr., Elwood Sparks, Hiram Sparks, and Gary Sparks.

Evalena is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Von Hanshaw of Owingsville, Kentucky., and Howard and Amy Hanshaw of Winchester, Ky., five grandchildren, Timothy A. Hanshaw, Crystal Eve Hanshaw Judd, John C. Hanshaw, Jacob B. Hanshaw, Addyson E. Hanshaw, one great-grandson, J. T. Judd, one great granddaughter, Nevaeh Judd, and a host of other family and friends who will sadly miss her..
